Gartner holds two supply chain executive conferences each year, the first of 2018 was in Phoenix, Arizona, May 14-17. The event covered the challenges faced by supply chain today and gave insight into the developing trends that are set to shape the future of the industry.
There was an emphasis on how organizations are leveraging technology to develop their supply chains – a key theme being their digitization. The implementation of real-time supply chain visibility and the use of AI for decision support were indicative of this focus on technology and also of the wider supply chain digital twin theme.
The Gartner myth-busting presentation on digital twins demonstrated the value they bring to the supply chain industry. They were clear the concept should be applied throughout life-cycles and operate at many different levels to deliver maximum value. Furthermore, they suggested, from operations to high-level strategic decision making, digital twins have the capacity to drive value across the entire supplier ecosystem, with four key impacts: to advance partnerships, streamline processes, increase transparency, and to enhance innovation.
At the well-attended event, demonstrations highlighted anyLogistix as a powerful software tool for introducing the technologies needed to stay competitive in supply chain. The supply chain software helps support the introduction of new technology and processes by providing the ability to quickly simulate supply chain scenarios. With enhanced decision making provided by anyLogitix, developments can be introduced more rapidly and at less cost.
